| Employment for Young People in Mablethorpe |
|
On 27th January, BBC Look North ran a feature about the employment situation in Mablethorpe for young people. Sadly the report painted a bleak picture of our town and the prospects for young people - there was a 24% rise in unemployment last month. It was filmed on a grey wet day in January and cameras focus on any space they can find that is devoid of people, plus OAP Association signs and Mobility Scooter shops, to reinforce a comment by Tennyson Head of School, Mike Eyre, that Mablethorpe is full of 'old folk' who provide work in the care industry.
ELDC Councillor Dick Edgington expresses the desire to make Mablethorpe a 21st Century resort that is able to retain it's young people, rather than have them leave the area, although he doesn't give any indications as to what actions are being taken to redress the situation.
Is this report a fair reflection of the situation in Mablethorpe? Are you a young person living here? Do you have a positive story to tell of success in employment for yourself or friends? Are you one of the businesses that is blamed for not providing work? If you would like to respond to any of these questions or make other comments on the report or life in Mablethorpe in general, please do so in the Forum or via the comment link. We'd love to hear from you. After all, it's your town!
