Australian Prime Minister to visit Mablethorpe?

In mid-August the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, became the very first follower of My Mablethorpe on Twitter - www.twitter.com/mymablethorpe. This set us wondering why an international world leader had an interest in Mablethorpe. My Mablethorpe set about trying to find out and the possibilities are intriguing ......

kevin-rudd-smallApparently, like many Australians, Kevin Rudd can trace his ancestry back to convicts that were shipped to the colony over 200 years ago. Some of these have been traced, such as Mary Ann Dade who was the youngest female convict to be transported to Australia in the Second Fleet in 1789. On the other side of Kevin's Family was Thomas Rudd, his paternal 4th great grandfather, who was deported in 1881 for stealing a bag of sugar.

Our research indicates that there were 4 other family members who arrived in Australia via these means but we have yet to discover who they were. Perhaps Mr Rudd is on a similar quest and the clues are leading to Mablethorpe?

Can you help us discover more? We've already enlisted the help of Helen Parkhurst, Mayor of Mablethorpe, Sutton-on-Sea and Trusthorpe who has great interest in genealogy matters through her website, the World Burial Index so we are hopeful of an answer to the mystery.

Having followed Kevin's 'tweets' for almost a month a picture is emerging of the things important to him, such as climate change. Is he researching the impact of climate change on coastal communities? Has he heard of the Mablethorpe 'weather bubble' or the carbon-saving wind farms along the Lincolnshire coast?

Of course, there is always the possibiity that he is simply looking for a great holiday away from all the pressures of political life. In which case we are sure that Mablethorpe would want to give him a great welcome. When he's finished watching some beach cricket and picked up some tips for the next Ashes series he'll need a place to stay, somewhere to eat, a spot of evening entertainment and a glass or two of the 'amber nectar'. Over to you, the people of Mablethorpe, to suggest how we would prepare for and welcome Mr Rudd .....

  • australian-flagBushtucker on the B&B breakfast menu?
  • Corks added to the Kiss Me Quick hats?
  • Beach BBQs by the Mayor with Kangaroo steaks a speciality?

If your business or organisation hasn't yet taken advantage of its FREE web page on My Mablehorpe, now is the time to act. Don't forget to include a snippet about yourselves that would interest Prime Minister Rudd.
