images/stories/torch-relay.jpg
It has been confirmed that the Olympic Torch Relay will pass through Mablethorpe on Wednesday 27th June 2012. This leg of the Olympic Torch Relay sets off from Cleethorpes in the morning and passes through Louth, Legbourne, Withern and Maltby Le Marsh before arriving in the town. It then moves on to Trusthorpe and Sutton-on-Sea before working it's way down the coast to Skegness, then back inland across to Boston and Seaford, before finishing the day in Lincoln, where there will be an evening celebration event.
Exact timings will be announced in early 2012. There is no news yet as to who will be the torchbearer on the leg of the route as it passes through Mablethorpe. There is a shortlist of 28,000 potential Torchbearers nationally from all nominations that came through the London 2012 'Moment to shine' campaign. One of 12 judging panels around the UK will select the 2,012 most inspiring people to be one of the 8,000 Torchbearers needed in total for the Olympic Torch Relay with Torchbearer places confirmed in February 2012.
The Olympic Flame will arrive in the UK from Greece on 18 May 2012. Details of where it will arrive in the UK are still being finalised.
The Torch Relay will begin at Land’s End on 19 May 2012. It will travel over 8,000 miles in 70 days.
The final Torchbearer will carry the Flame into the Olympic Stadium during the Opening Ceremony on 27 July 2012. The cauldron will be lit, and Games of the XXX Olympiad will be officially open.
More information about the Olympic Torch Relay for 2012 can be found at the London Olympics 2012 website |
