Emmerdale’s Rodney Blackstock will be in Mablethorpe to turn on the resort’s illuminations as part of an action packed day of entertainment on July 31, 2010.
Rodney, played by Patrick Mower, has been involved in a number of crucial story lines in the ITV soap since he joined in October 2000.
“I’m sure local people will be delighted to meet Rodney on this very special day,” said Mayor of Mablethorpe, Councillor Paddy Prince. “It will be a real highlight in Mablethorpe’s events programme this year.”
Between 12noon and 5pm, Mablethorpe will be alive with activities taking place along the foreshore. Activities will include skateboard and dance demonstrations, beach cricket, Punch and Judy, a sandcastle competition, 'Have A Go Circus', and much more. The event will make use of the resort’s natural open spaces.
The evening programme, which will be compered by the team from Haven, kicks off at 6pm at the High Street Pullover. Dan Churchley from Haven will entertain the crowds along with performances from local bands 'The Midnight Ramblers’ and ‘Towering Heights’.
At 8.40pm the procession, led by Rodney, will leave Stanley Avenue and make its way to the Pullover where he will flick the switch to light up the town at 9.30pm.
Councillor Prince, continued: “This year’s event has been developed through the Events Partnership with support from the Town and District Councils plus numerous other organisations from the area. As well as being a great event for tourists, the illuminations event will help attract even more people to the town to support the local economy.”
The full festival programme will be announced soon and will be avaialble at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk or by contacting Mablethorpe Tourist Information Centre on 01507 474939.
Following several requests we are making available posters, flyers etc available to print or download from My Mablethorpe to help spread the word about this growing community website. A list of links to these will be maintained here.
Retiring Mayor of Mablethorpe, Sutton-on-Sea and Trusthorpe, Helen Parkhurst has made sure that a swimming pool for the area remained high on the agenda for East Lindsey District Council. At the ELDC Civic Dinner for invited guests from all over the region - each Mayor or Chairman does the same during their year, which is funded by the Mayor/Chairman herself/himself - Helen took her Civic guests on a tour of our area during the Bathing Beauties Festival to promote our neck of the woods with great success.
Towards the end of the evening and after the speeches someone on Helen's table had the idea of removing the table number and replacing it with a message for all the Civics to see...so of course she added "Mablethorpe wants a swimming pool!" It went down really well (many people took pics) and the Head of Lincoln County Coucil came over to see what was going on. They chatted for a while about the possibility of a pool. Other members said, "Save Louth Town Hall" and "Save 1 Market Street Spilsby" - the latter currently making headlines in local newspapers.

New Funding for Mablethorpe
Thursday, 25 March 2010 23:37
Mablethorpe is to share £200,000 of new government funding as part of a scheme to support coastal resorts. Look North considers why this is badly needed in Mablethorpe and talks to local people and a nationally recogised expert on coastal towns about why this is so badly needed.
My Mablethorpe thanks Look North for highlighting the needs of our town.
Scores of runners of all ages turned out on a sunny Sunday morning to raise money for Sport Relief in the Mablethorpe Sport Relief Mile. There was a even strong contingent of four-legged runners in the form of dogs accompanying their owners!
In a winning time of 7 minutes and 2 seconds, first past the post were the two legs of 10 year old Domenico, a pupil from Huttoft Primary School whose brother won the last Sport Relief Mile. Medals and certificates were presented to the entrants as they crossed the finish line by Helen Parkhurst, Mayor of Mablethorpe.
Also doing plenty of running about, organising the event, was Debbie Prince, East Lindsey Council Neighbourhood Projects officer. In addition to the mile event, Debbie ensured there was something for the more seasoned runner with 3 and 6 mile races also taking place.

The Louth Leader recently ran a front page story on local businessman Richard Borthwick's idea to have some roads in Mablethorpe named after famous celebrities. A photo showed Paul Daniels cutting the ribbon to open Paul Daniels Drive. BBC Look North picked up on the story and presenter Peter Levy and weatherman Paul Hudson jibed each other as to who was most likely to be invited to have a road named after them.
We thought we'd let our visitors have their say and run a poll featuring some well-known celebrities (including Peter & Paul, of course) to choose from for the first 'Celebrity Road'. Click the Read More button to view the results of the voting.
