Town Clock 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: -12
I think it is time Mablethorpe had a Town Clock, preferably at the junction of Seacroft Road and the High Street on the Co-op corner where the benches are. Here, it would be visible from buses coming into Town, people arriving at the bus station and for people and traffic along the High Street. At the base of the Clock, we could have an official Town Guide . Although the Pullover would be a nice spot, it would not be suitable due to the air conditions (salt spray) and it would not be as visible as the Co-op corner. I mentioned this at a recent Meeting but then I have to say that I mentioned it two years ago also! I don't see this as a luxury item.

why a town clock pam ilike most people i would imagine, think the town needs a lick of paint more than a clock it would be just another thing to be vandalised and used as a place to hang out at night and where you say coop corner is a good place to put it i think most people wouldn't feel comfortable using the cash point or the coop on dark evenings with a large group hanging around
but maybe i'm just being cynical again

Yes the Town needs a lick of paint and Karen Froggatt has arranged a grant for businesses to apply for to paint their shop fronts, one or two have spruced them up a bit.I don't think of a Town Clock and Information Board as being that much of an attraction to vandals. The clock would be well elevated. You could be right but then where do we draw the line at stopping any Town improvements just in case they get vandalised. The vandals can break windows, spray paint, uproot plants and flowers but we still have to replace things. A Clock is just a necessity for any Town and would be provided by sponsorship or grants. I agree it is not a priority but I still think we should have a Clock and a Tourist Information Board. I don't blame you for being cynical!

Nothing wrong with the idea of a town clock.
Something to focus the community the way the "star of the east" didn't...
But it would need to be a bit more than a clock. It would have to "do" something to get peoples attention and publicity for the town.
Just don't have it do what the town clock in Princeton, MN did yesterday. The temperature was 70F and it played "winter wonderland" at the top of the hour...

How about a big sand timer that turns over on the hour?
Filled with golden Mablethorpe sand of course.

Thanks, that is a good unusual idea. When I raise the subject at the next Meeting, I will pass your suggestion on. Now a clock that plays music sounds good but not if it malfunctions as yours did!!

i think a clock would be a great idea for the town, a scrolling clock with digital temperature gauge also would look nice
