Is this a serious idea or just something to get the towns name in the news?
It's a phenomenal idea. But whether its workable or not I wouldn't know. I'd have my doubts.
Some kind of special dock would have to be constructed to get folks out there for a start.
Ships have been moored of the beach many times before when there was a shipbreaking industry at the turn of the last century. I don't think we'd want to break the Ark Royal on the beach though...
I seem to recall the Great Yarmouth in Norfolk wanted to moor a floating oil rig off the beach there about 20 years ago.

I think it is some publicity stunt of Richard Borthwick's (Sharky's Bar and Beach Bar owner and local businessman). Whatever,it is a brilliant idea whether tongue in cheek or not!!!!

he's the one renamed Mabo the Village of the Daleks wasn't he?

I'm not sure about that, but as he tries to raise the profile of Mablethorpe, it would be wrong to make that sort of remark. Someone said it though.

As far as I can tell it was an article in the Guardian in October 2009 that described Mablethorpe that way and Mr Borthwick appeared on "Look North" to defend the towns honour

Thanks Ian, I remember now. We could do with yourself and Staticgirl on a few of the Forums and Groups in town, you would both do your best for Mablethorpe.

eeeeee it's probably precisely because we are exiled that we can see what's good about Mabo compared to other places....

I am always trying to get people to contribute to this site and tell them how passionate we are about Mablethorpe. I know we are all busy etc. but something must be happening somewhere, good or bad.
