PROTEST AT R.N.L.I. THURSDAY 1ST JULY 2010.
I attended a Protest at the RNLI Station at 7 o'clock this evening. A representative from Dorset HQ was having a Meeting with the Crew regarding the removal of the Land Rover from Mablethorpe and the resignation of Bill Tuplin as a result of this action. The crew and the Rep. from HQ came out to talk to those of us who were protesting. Amongst us were a Town Councillor, a District Councillor, a "Visions" photographer, people who are long term fundraisers, and various people from residents to organisation members.
A heated discussion took place with complaints about the removal of the Land Rover and the reignation of Bill Tuplin, in protest, after many years of proud and dedicated service with the RNLI.
The result of the exchanges between both sides was that HQ had made a decision that Mablethorpe Station did not require a Land Rover for the duties that the RNLI are required to perform which is sea rescue. There are Police, Ambulance, Coast Guard and Life Guards that are able to attend to other emergencies. including missing children, therefore despite the varied use of the Land Rover for forty years or so, it was decided that what Mablethorpe needs is tractors. This was disputed by the protesters as it was pointed out that donations are not for one area but belong to the Whole RNLI. They will not return theLand Rover but agreed that to remove it without consulting the Station first was a mistake.
We had been informed that all the crew wanted the L/Rover back but by the end of the protest, it was clear that the crew were divided and some thought the Tractor was ideal.
The conclusion by myself which I voiced was that had the HQ communicated correctly in the first place, we would have been better informed and would not be protesting on behalf of a crew that were divided. I await the local press releases which I requested. I am not happy!!!!!!!
