Occasionally I see stories about Mablethorpe in the media (outside Lincs) and I shall try to post them here....

Today - the forrins!!

And a German article - which as far as I can tell only mentiones mablethorpe in some imaginitive travelling around the countryside if the IceAge swallowed up the North sea again...
www.readers-edition.de/2010/07/09/damn-this-silly-season/

If you need help reading them (and to be honest I still don't have much of a clue with the German one), this is a useful web page translator:

Thanks!

Our beach huts continue to attract attention!
Are beach huts the new penthouses?

Beach huts in Scarborough are fetching £35,000, the same price as some one-bedroom flats in the town. So what do you get for your money, and why is the market for beach huts so buoyant?

"It was one of the most exciting moments in my life, having finally got a beach hut."

Margot Charlton's eyes gleamed. She has travelled the world and she loves to ski, but her Mablethorpe hut in Lincolnshire, with its saucy seaside characters painted on the outside, has been a lifelong ambition. And she is not alone.......

Plus video!

Michael Kheng is looking for a new tenant for the Book-In-Hand! (He looks younger than I expected - was his dad called Michael as well?)

Showing a terrible grasp of geography:
Another British holiday tradition showing signs of a revival this year is the beach hut. One hundred new luxury beach huts have been built in Scarborough on the Yorkshire coast and some are fetching up to £35,000, as much as a small property costs in the seaside resort.

Meanwhile, the neighbouring town of Mablethorpe has commissioned some unusual designs, including the cloud hut, from which you can watch passing cirrus formations, and a hut that has been crafted to look like a gin and tonic. Down on the south coast, in Bourne-mouth, the local council has even teamed up with Ikea stores to style a hut in a child-friendly way.

Already a leading provider of swimming lessons, Haven has teamed up with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution so youngsters can "Hit the Surf" in safety this summer.

Highly trained RNLI lifeguards will be running surf safety sessions on the beaches at three Haven holiday parks so kids aged eight to 12 can learn how to be safe in the water.

The free Hit The Surf sessions cover beach safety advice, the role of the lifeguard, what the beach safety flags mean and what children should do if they find themselves in trouble in the sea.

There's also a lot of fun games and exercises both in and out of the sea, plus instruction in how to use a bodyboard safely and a chance to see some of the RNLI equipment, such as an inshore rescue, boat close-up.

The Hit The Surf sessions are being held at Golden Sands Holiday Park near Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire (August 2-5); Kiln Park Holiday Park, Tenby, South Wales (Aug 9-13); and Devon Cliffs Holiday Park, near Exmouth, Devon (Aug 16-20).

MyMablethorpe's newsferret reports from the cyber-Fleet Street again.

One of our East Midlands Full Circle groups, Visions Foundation, have started their film search and found something!

As a result of a fun-filled Open Day at the Boatshed, in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire members of the public were invited to come and speak to the Full Circle representatives. John Gregory, Terry Stowe and the team, which includes George Minkley, Rosy Rich and Peter Early, helped introduced members of the public to the Full Circle project and why the search for home movie footage of the Midlands is important. Following it’s success, the Open Day was advertised in the local newspaper ‘The Leader’ and has since generated a great deal of interest.

Shop fronts in Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea could receive a makeover thanks to a new project initiated by the Mablethorpe Area Partnership.

Local businesses are being encouraged to apply to the Shop Front Grant scheme, which was launched on Friday, August 13, 2010.

Keep the quotes coming, sometimes they are more informative than our own source. The site has been very quiet this week so it is good to know there is someone providing input. I am missing everyone's comments, so please come back fellow members!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A video from Rod Whiting about why people visit our little stretch of loveliness ever summer: news.bbc.co.uk/local/lincolnshire/hi/peo..._8951000/8951213.stm

A discarded distress beacon triggered a two-and-a-half hour search yesterday afternoon by Yarmouth Coastguard, who believed it was from a vessel in crisis.

At approximately 1pm, the Coastguard were alerted to the beacon transmitting either inland or close inshore near Saltfleet in Lincolnshire. The Humber all weather lifeboat was asked to assist and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Donna Nook and Mablethorpe were also sent to the approximate area to help. RAF Rescue Helicopter 128 was also requested to help in finding the beacon

ENERGY giant RWE npower renewable is asking county residents to continue sending in their views on plans for one of the world's biggest wind farms.

As reported in the Echo last Saturday, Lincolnshire County Council officials fear plans for Triton Knoll, to be based off the Mablethorpe coast, could harm onshore tourism, farming, traffic and nature.

RWE npower is looking to build an electricity substation, which the county council believes could have a negative impact on the surrounding area.

Four sites have been proposed for the substation, including land near Sloothby, Greet Steeping, Monksthorpe and Welton Le Marsh.

Bid for Mablethorpe beach project cash fails

A Lincolnshire council has said it will look for new backers for a £1m coastal project after a funding bid failed.

In April, East Lindsey District Council applied for cash from Natural England for its Wild Coast Gateway scheme in Mablethorpe.

This included wooden walkways, a natural playground and an amphitheatre to improve amenities on the beach.

Officials said they were disappointed but would still seek to take the idea forward.

Live in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire? Do you have a favourite haunt or pet hate? If so, write by Tuesday 2 November to lets.move@guardian.co.uk

The Guardian!!!!!!! Not many facilities (actually none) for the Middle Class Liberal in Mabo.... I can only imagine what the resulting article will be like.

Tides of change for former library building

A FORMER library is to be given a new lease of life as part of a £200,000 building project. The unused building in Mablethorpe's Victoria Road is being turned into a dedicated art space with retail areas for handcrafted and artisan products. There will also be a small tea room and training facilities. Town centre manager Karen Froggatt said the building had been renamed the Tide Gallery.
