it has been quite an eye opener since we began our new buisness in Spanish City in October, to find that many people did not know that shops, cafes existed in that area, we are a small shop, along with others in the complex, now the season has come to its end for this year, we have noticed that the locals do not wonder past Victoria road traffic lights, maybe, with most of the amusment arcades closed it appears everywhere else does the same, BUT, we are OPEN, 7 days a week, our hours have been shortened with winter, but we are still operating,we still give service with a smile and politeness, maybe would be nice if we were allowed to advertise our opening times and wares in other places, we are a very friendly complex, it would be a pity to lose it through lack of local public interest please feel free to browse you will be most welcome, it would be lovely to see you and grab a bargain.

I quite understand what you mean. Even last Sunday, which was a sand racing day, there was a very distinct lack of shoppers and 'wanderers' in that part of town.

I'm not quite sure what the answer is but at least you are doing all you can to promote your business and My Mablethorpe is here to help you do just that. If anyone has suggestions as to how we can help further, just let us know.

the problem is lack of response from locals because they think spanish city is seasonal, but it doesnt help when events are cancelled i.e. angel xmas market, just because it wasnt very good last year, they have cancelled, my motto is try n try again, keep trying, eventually success, we have to keep going to survive. or we lose eveything

The recession has not helped this year kev, last winter there was a lot more people in the square. there were also more biker visitors, I was still printing t-shirts and mugs for customers right up to christmas. And i think the cafes done quite well, we could do with a sign up past the lights stating that spanish city is open all year round. rmaybe on the rubbish bins up that end of town. (i'm sure i've seen advertising on them before.
Not sure how much it would cost, but maybe the council could pay. After all they take enough money off us for the rates on our units.

yes, there is no doubt that more advertising is needed but I wonder if a name change would work and a relaunch of the Square for the new season---wed have to look into all the required permissions but it may be worth a try---we have nothing to lose as people locally dont know where Spanish City is let alone lots of visitors---any comments????

Hi Jools, i think a name change would not be a viable option, It would be a paperwork nightmare for our landlord, and the post office would be against it.Even if the name was changed you would have to start at the begining again for people to know where we was.
I agree a lot of people don't know where we are, but a lot do and i think this summer we managed to raise our profile. But a relaunch we could certainly do with, even if it's only a lick of paint on our doors and walls to make the place more inviting. The summer is not so bad and easily capitalised on, the problem is out of season when there is only the locals around we need to encourage them past the lights.
Then we may have a chance of trading up to christmas.

Nice to see the look north film uploaded here, and nice to hear a positive response from the new town manager.
