Hello I shall kick this section off.
The beach has been the reason for Mablethorpe's existence for a very long time. Do you have old pictures of people enjoying themselves at Mablethorpe beach? I have been going through the family archive and putting it online and have found some cracking pictures.
This is my grandmother (the cute little girl with the bob) enjoying the sea with her brother and sister in the 1920s, I think
At the time there were entertainments on the beach itself:
There is a row of tents on the beach in the background - apparently, these were leftover tents used by the armed forces in WW1!
Here's the Wield family walking up the pullover. Apart from that fact that the women appear to be wearing pyjama suits (how very bohemian!) you can see some of the old buildings in the high street, including the buildings that stood where the Spanish City is now.
In the 1940s, I found a photo of a group of army folk training on Theddlethorpe Beach:
I wonder who they were!
And here's me in the 80s looking very proud of myself:
That sand used to be so soft. I was playing with my nephews on the beach on Sunday and what a mess! We found a hole someone had dug which was about 3ft deep and you could see all the different layers of beach. My soft beach was at the bottom!
If you are interested I did a set of photos contrasting Old Mablethorpe with New. I had a book of old photographs so I went to all the spots and rephotographed them as close to the original viewpoint as possible. You can see them here:
