The Old Goods Yard Gate 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 5
I was in Mablethorpe over the Bank Holiday weekend, checking things out and I was surprised to see that the gate that marked the entrance to the old goods yard by the Sports centre had gone.
It has been mentioned here www.my-mablethorpe.com/mablethorpe-blog/...-crossing-gates.html where preserving it was suggested.
Anyone know what happened to it? Is someone making efforts to restore it or has it been destroyed?
If it has been destroyed then it is the perfect example of why the town needs a historical society. To stop this sort of thing happening again.

Hi Ian, the gate has been removed by the Town Council. It is going to be restored and re- sited in Station Park, where the Station was, by the Turntable. There is going to be a sculpture hopefully of an Engine of some sort. It is a good idea but after the problems there have been with our Mermaid, I am a bit apprehensive. However, we can't cancel everything because of a few mindless anti social people. The Mermaid has been taken away for repairs which I hope will not be too expensive! I will keep you uptodate on progress with the Station project!

That is such good news, thanks for the update.
Though the old turntable pit could do with a bit of looking after, there was the remains of a burnt bike in the fire pit when I took a look

I think someone had a bring a bottle party a few weeks ago, I gather it was a bit of a mess. Glad you are relieved that the gate is safe, quite a few people asked where it was. I hope that it is appreciated by the residents when it is finished next year. It is, I think, meant to be a part of a History Trail, so let us see what happens! Regards, Pam
