We all know about Mablethorpe appearing in DH Lawrences "Sons and Lovers" and that Alfred Lord Tennyson visited the town. Did you know about another literary mention of Mablethorpe? I didn't until I was following some leads on smuggling in the area.
The book in question is "There is sorrow on the sea" by Sir Gilbert Parker. A tale of smuggling and lost loves on the Mablethorpe coast.
Its a short story that can be downloaded for free from "Project Guttenberg" here

There's a bit more about Sir Gilbert Parker on Wikipedia here

Perhaps he too had visited the area he puts many local features into the story.
