Hello,
Is there anyone who would like join with me in negotiating with LCC to turn the old library into a self-funding museum for Mablethorpe & surrounding coastal areas.
This would provide a place for tourists to go on wet days without leaving town, for the community to tell their stories and for local schools to participate in exhibitions.
Please contact me if you are interested in becoming part of a working committee, or just wish to show an interest.
Thank you for taking the time to read this

I think you have a good idea there and would show support but not as a committee member due to present commitments. I will mention your idea to my friends and neighbours

Hi, what a great idea, I would love to get involved in something like that, so you can count me in, this is something I have also been thinking about but finding a venue would be a hard one. I think that LLC intend to sell the old library. I would be happy to get involved, why not give me a call and tell me more. 01507 473002 ask for John

As I wrote in the other section:

There isn't one - but there should be. There's a lot of amateur historians in the area, some fantastic local history books and it's not as if Mabo doesn't have history. It's in the Domesday book when many other larger towns aren't!

We should be recording what the oldest residents of the town remember from their childhoods.

I would also like to know if that story about WW2 planes crashing in the sand dunes (one german one british) is true or not!

We could use this website as a way of crowd-sourcing memories of Mabo in the past for people who visited or no longer live there so they can help from afar....

I have a couple of old photos that might be interesting - views of the beach in the 30s and a photo of my grandma with Billy Butlin.

I.ve only lived here for 10 years but have heard a few brief stories about Mabo. I am sure someone's family used to have a small Museum somewhere on the sea front. I think his name is Peter Gregory but I am sure that a Peter Gregory is something to do with Historical photographs of Mabo in some sort of Archive in Lincoln. Any relation to you John (Visions)?

The Library has an archive section but it's locked away, unaccessable because staff are busy down stairs in the reading room to keep unlocking stuff. Maybe they would allow a small volunteer group to update, catalogue and operate it.

That is a good idea. I haven't heard any news about the old Library yet, must check with the powers that be.
Has anyone visited "Ye olde Curiosity Museum" in Victoria Road, there are loads of items of interest and it is definately worth a visit.

Would anyone like to join forces and meet me at the Library for moral support while I put forward the idea of a volunteer group for sorting and/ or manning the archive section? I'm free most mornings except Thursdays.

If I didn't live and work so far away that would be right up my street

This sounds just the sort of thing to make a pledge for on Mablethorpe Will Do - you can submit it as a local project and ask for other volunteers to pledge to help.
