What's in a film?  -  The Visions Project

Mablethorpe Visions was first formed in 2007 by a small group of would be filmmakers with the aim to record local history both past and present. As time went by it became obvious that in order to achieve the 'Visions Vision' to promote community film making, we could no longer continue with the small amount of equipment we had plus our own personal equipment that was failing fast. There was also a need to improve the quality of our work as technology advanced. With the help from Lincolnshire Community Champions and the Lincolnshire Community Foundation, in the form of grants we were able to step up a level and become more   proactive in the area and record all our work in High Definition, the standard that is now required. With the additional equipment we now have, we have been able tackle bigger projects and loan out equipment for others to use. But there is still a long way to go to achieve our goal.

Its hard work

People often ask what's involved? Well, making film is not as simple as most people think it is. It's not just a matter of pointing a camera and pressing the button. Sat in front of a computer editing hours and hours of film just to produce one DVD takes a large amount of time and patience and no mean skill. In addition to the skill of the cameraman and the editor there is a lot of behind the scenes activity and cost involved. There is a requirement for several Cinematography Media licences, Copyright licences, Equipment and Public Liability Insurance and individual CRB checks for each member of the team.  Every DVD produced attracts a royalty that must be paid to the licensing authority, in our case it is to MPEG-LA in America. Consumables such as tapes and batteries also come into the equation.

But it's great Fun

The Visions Foundation as it has now become, a far more professional looking organisation and the high standards we set are being maintained. The Foundation is a not for profit organisation and every penny made helps pay the cost.  Visions are now located at the Boatshed and a members of the team are available on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10.am till 2pm. So if you If you have had experience in amateur filmmaking or would like to learn, or have a project you would like to film or need our help with, why not call in and see us at the Boatshed.
