Your Local Council Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe and Sutton on Sea Town Council is the local Council for this town. It looks after the local issues, and consists of 18 councillors - each representing their own ward. All 18 councillors sit on various committees of the Council, as well as on the full council itself.
The committee structure allows the decision making process to be delegated to committees to save delays. For example, the Planning Committee meets on average once every 2 - 3 weeks and discusses all planning applications received, this timescale allows responses to be sent within the required time frame. In addition to the Planning Committee, which deals with planning related issues, licences and street collections, there is the Community and Amenities Commitee which deals with local amenities such as the cemetery; allotments; St Marys Park; cycleways and footpaths. There is also the Administration Committee which deals with administrative matters involving the council - the internal structure and internal issues such as contracts, employment, staffing and accounts. All the minutes and decisions of these committees are then ratified at the full council meetings held every 6 weeks or so. The only item which cannot be delegated by law is the final setting of the budget and agreeing the precept.
The Council employs a Town Clerk - Mrs J. Cooper, and a secretary - Mrs Sue Broughton.
Councillors Your local Town Councillors are:
Cllr Irene Daw; Cllr Bernard Dobbs; Cllr Grahem Gooding; Cllr Jeanette Gooding; Cllr Tony Howard; Cllr Peter Jackson; Cllr Caroline Lewis; Cllr Moira Morgan; Cllr Grahem Parkhurst; Cllr Steve Pratley; Cllr Paddy Prince; Cllr Geoffrey Richards; Cllr Ted Rolls; Cllr Margaret Rolls; Cllr Bud Shields MBE; Cllr Joyce Taylor and Cllr Carl Tebbutt.
Meetings All council meetings are open to the public. Members of the public may address the committee on a matter to be discussed, or at full council there is a 15 minute public sessiion where members of the public may ask any question they wish. The Councillors and the Clerk will be pleased to try and answer all questions.
Only matters which are listed on the agendas (which are posted on notice boards in Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea) can be discussed and decided upon at a meeting. There is no place for "Any Other Business". Minor announcements can be made under correspondence, but no decisions made, particularly those involving finance or planning unless as part of the agenda.
Public Meetings There are three open public meetings per year, as well as all the other meetings, and these meetings are an opportunity for you to have your say about anything. If it is a Town Council matter, then the Clerk and the Councillors will be pleased to help. The next informal public meeting is scheduled for 16th November and will be held at Meridale Hall, Sutton on Sea at 7pm. The Clerk will be giving a presentation on the workings and legalities of Town and Parish Councils.
